Have You Heard Forest City Yet?

One of my pals, Jamen, who is currently in Regal Degal with the Dinowalrus dude, also has a rather amazing country band called Forest City with one of the Boogie Boarder dudes. Forest City has been around for almost a year but don't play very often. If you were at my birthday party in October you might have caught them but they were pretty new at that point and are much better nowadays. I'd even go as far as saying they're one of the best bands in Brooklyn. They play classic country with a nice touch of rock n' roll. If you're a fan of Gram Parsons, The Band, outlaw country like Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings or Brooklyn band Gunfight then you'll love them.

Every year my family has a massive Memorial Day BBQ in South Jersey (near Philly). I asked Forest City if they'd be down to play and they decided to make the trip. They were only supposed to play about 45 minutes but the hundreds of attendees, ranging in age from 12 to 70, were so turned on by the music that they kept playing. Eventually bystanders started jumping in and playing along (there were tons of musicians from Brooklyn & Philly there).

This went on for nearly three glorious hours. People were dancing and passing around homemade brandy the whole time. It was one of those once in a lifetime experiences that people will be talking about 30 years from now and it was all because of the amazing performance by Forest City. It's not easy to entertain teenage punks, 20-something hipsters, 50+ year old hippies, grandparents and everything in between. There were literally random strangers showing up who "heard this amazing music from down the street" and followed it to the house. The next week my parents voice mailbox was filled with people trying to find out who the awesome band was that played followed by "best party ever." Which was heard not only from the locals but even the many jaded Brooklyn kids that were there too.

My point is, Forest City is fucking fantastic and you should at the very least listen to their album. When and if they play again I highly recommend seeing them play.
