Tonight: Ski Club Party! Super Party Fun Time @ Castle In Hell

Tonight is the first party I've worked on in awhile. The word has been spreading and I think it's going to be a fucking great time. We got the locals playing (Action Painters, Dynasty Electric, Radio America, HTR) and we got the Philly crew coming up too (The Sounds Of Kaleidoscope). Get there early and take advantage of the free beer, plus (TSO)K go on first and they're fucking awesome.

***Quit asking about the list. 1) It's a house party. 2) It's only $5. 3) I'm just promoting, I'm not involved with the venue stuff so I honestly don't even know if there is one - probably not though.

Find MP3s With Fizy

Yet another way to dig up MP3s on the internet.

Tesla (The Coil Not The Band) Covers Zelda

I'm a big nerd for science shit, especially when it pertains to one of my all-time favorite smart dudes - Nikola Tesla. Then when you tie in Zelda, the greatest video game theme song of all-time (I'll fight anyone who says different) you end up with a perfect union of nerditronics.

This video was shot at SXSW:

3rd Ward Wants Your Dirty Cell Pics

3rd Ward is having an open call for your sexy cell phone pics and vids. Ever take a picture of your old ladies ass with your cell phone? Perfect, send it over to 3rd Ward and maybe it will be displayed to hundreds of people. See, dreams can come true.

I wonder how many of the people that end up in this installment will actually know that they're parts are being shown to Brooklyn?

The MTA Will Fuck Us All

Have you heard the wonderful news? The MTA is going to jack up the fare again. This time the monthly is getting raised from $81/month to $103/month! That means I'm expected to pay over $1,200/year to get to work. Sure it's cheaper then having a car but considering they're cutting service too it's not going to be nearly as convenient.

I for one am sick of the MTA dicking around. We had a surplus a few years ago and instead of holding onto it for hard times those fucking retards blew every fucking penny of it. Now they barely have enough money to stay functional and we have to pay for it. The funny thing is when the ridership drops in half then a 25% increase will only dig the hole deeper.

I'm ready to march on city hall and demand this be resolved. The work force can not afford an increase like this and most people don't have the option of working from home. It's time for officials to step in and smack the idiots at the MTA around a bit, or else we're going to have to do it.

I for one am going bike shopping as soon as this kicks in. I could use the exercise anyway.

Choose Responsibility

I was just watching The Colbert Report on Hulu and John McCardell was on advocating a change in the drinking age. He is pushing for a change in the legal drinking age from 21 back down to 18.

I urge you to go to the website and sign up. I am and always have been a proponent for a change in this law. Prior to my turning twenty-one I was outraged by this law and I still am to this day. Let me get this straight - at the age of 18 you can:

  • Cast a vote to elect the leader of the free world
  • Serve in the military to sacrifice your life in order to "protect" this country
  • Sit on a jury and condemn another citizen
  • Buy a house
  • Get married
  • Pay taxes to the government
The list goes on and on - it's essentially all of the legal rights of an adult. Now maybe I'm crazy but if someone is old enough to vote, own a house, have a spouse, and serve in the military shouldn't they be able to have a fucking beer? The simple answer is YES. Of course, it's common sense. You can't have two ages that define what an adult is - it's one or the other.

The fact is drinking in back rooms and basements, away from older more mature drinkers, is much more dangerous then drinking at a bar. I know this first hand since I was the guy having the drinking parties in High School. Everyone would get shit faced beyond anything I have ever seen since then. And I know what you're saying - of course that happened, they're kids. But the fact is just about all of us had much higher tolerances back then. The real reason we got so drunk was because we weren't in an environment that had boundaries. There was no one there to say "I think you've had enough buddy" and that's very important.

Also, the culture has changed since the law was enacted. Drunk driving is no longer a slap on the wrist it's a serious crime. In my dad's day drunk driving was just how you got home after the bar - it wasn't even frowned upon. Bringing along a designated driver has become part of the bar culture since then. The reason these laws were enacted was due to drunk drivers but it didn't really address the problem because EVERYONE used to drive drunk back then. Now it's much less common but the fact is kids are still hurting themselves because they're getting hammered in even more dangerous environments.

I'm happy we finally have a movement starting and we can finally catch up with the rest of the world, which by the way tends to have less alcohol related problems then we do.

Free Screening: Gorillaz "Bananaz"

There's going to be a free screening of the Gorillaz documentary called "Bananaz" at the Soho Apple Stor on 3/24. If you're a fan of the band then I imagine this is pretty cool. The director, Ceri Levy, will be there to answer any questions you might have. This will be the PG-13 version because, I guess, the Apple Store doesn't condone "Cunts" and other British obscenities. Here's some more info:

Date: Tuesday, March 24, 2009
What: Bananaz Film Screening and Q&A with director Ceri Levy
Where: Apple Store, Soho Location
103 Prince Street New York City, NY 10012
Time: Screening and Q&A is from 6:30 PM - 8 PM

Bananaz, a documentary film directed by Ceri Levy removes the virtual walls of Gorillaz, a cartoon band created by artist Jamie Hewlett and musician Damon Albarn. Audiences see just what Ceri Levy saw over some many and varied months of shooting from 2000 to 2006.

Bananaz is Levy's story of the partnership and community behind Gorillaz. He takes you on the road with this virtual phenomenon and shows a part of Gorillaz never seen before - reality. Bananaz is an honest, at times hilarious account of the working relationship between Albarn and Hewlett. A free-wheeling film which teams these two likely lads with friend and film maker Ceri Levy.

Featuring Damon Albarn, Jamie Hewlett, Dennis Hopper, De la Soul and Ibrahim Ferrer and Ceri's camera.

Gorillaz is the most successful virtual band ever, fronted by four wildly talented but totally disparate characters: pretty-but-vacant singer 2D, satanic bassist Murdoc Niccals, Japanese guitar prodigy Noodle and amiable man-mountain drummer Russel Hobbs. Formed in 2000, their eponymous debut album was released to international acclaim and 5 million plus sales. Gorillaz were crowned Best Group at the 2005 MTV Europe Awards and received 5 Grammy nominations and 2 Brit Awards nods. Their second album, Demon Days, has sold 6 million albums worldwide.

Grace/Wastelands - Pete Doherty

For years I've been hearing all this shit about Pete Doherty being a genius. Frankly I never got it, sure Libertines were good and Baby Shambles weren't bad either but great? Not in my opinion, not even close.

I was looking through my inbox this morning and I had an email with a link to download the new Pete Doherty album. I decided to give it a try.

I want to offer an apology to every fan of this dude who I ever insulted by talking shit and questioning his talent. His new solo album Grace/Wastelands is one of the best albums I've heard in a very long time. It's not perfect but damn it comes pretty close.

As you know I'm not into writing album reviews so I'm not going to get into specifics so I'll keep it short. BUY THIS ALBUM, immediately.

Again, I'm not a big fan of any of the bands this dude has been in so this is not a biased opinion. Also, as you know, I generally prefer loud and fast - this is neither and yet I love it.

If holing up in a dingy London flat and shooting heroin 24/7 results in music like this well then keep it up Petey boy.

I Knew You Had To Be Stupid To Like Lil Wayne

Here's an awesome chart that correlates SAT score with taste in music. The results are pretty much what you would expect - except I'm supposed to like Ben Folds according to this. He is pretty wicked on a piano I guess.

Tonight: So So Glos @ DBA

I'm blogging from my phone so if this looks like shit blame Blackberry. Tonight the best punk band in Brooklyn is playing Death By Audio. It's the first show of their tour so come and send them off proper.

Hey Chris Cornell, WTF!?!?

So I just headed over to the Chris Cornell MySpace to take a listen to the new tunes. Now I expected it to suck - frankly everything he's done since Euphoria Morning has. In fact lots of people thought that sucked too. But I'll stand up for it, sure it's no Soundgarden but it's pretty damn good in my book.

I kinda lost ya with Audioslave, it sounded good on paper but then I heard it and well, not my thing. That James Bond shit was pretty awful but it was for a soundtrack and I'm guessing you didn't have full creative control so I let it pass.

And that brings me to my experience on MySpace this morning. I have no words to describe what entered my ear holes. It's without question some of the worst shit I've ever heard in my life. Now if you told me some 15-year old kid made this shit then I probably wouldn't be saying that but the fact it comes from one of the great singers of rock n' roll disturbs me greatly.

Dude, you're what 45 now? I understand it's the whole midlife thing but seriously man. You're an amazing musician (he really is, great on guitar and drums) and I didn't hear a single guitar or anything resembling an actual instrument. It's just you singing to some shitty beats Timbaland had laying around from his Justin Timberlake sessions.

You're better then this man. I mean dude, SOUNDGARDEN! If not the best, at least the most consistently good band from the Seattle scene. Please for the love of God call up Thayil and write some real shit to make up for this.

Maybe 15 year olds will actually dig this shit and you'll get your platinum stamp but honestly they're going to see right fucking through this. You're just some old dude that used to be in some band their dads listen to.

I read something on a message board that made me feel a little better. Someone mentioned Robert Plant in the 80's and it made me feel a little better. He had the same story really - amazing singer in amazing band goes solo and makes some "hip" shit. But look at him now, back to making killer fucking music again.

If you keep this up then you deserve to be remembered forever as the shitty pop guy. But if this was just some twisted midlife crisis then I forgive you. Please go back to music with guitars. You're embarrassing yourself.

No Suffocation For YouTube

The most popular death metal video in history has been taken down. Some dude recorded himself playing along to "Infecting The Crypts" by Suffocation. It's a damn funny video and managed to get over 3.5 million views! That's probably more then every other death metal video ever, combined. The label took it down for copyright infringement. Of course that won't stop the video from showing up on a ton of other sites - enjoy!

Team Robespierre & So So Glos @ Autumn Bowl

So I totally forgot to write up a review for this one - whoops. Here's a really brief recap and some pics:

  • Autumn Bowl is an amazing fucking spot and there needs to be more parties there.
  • The sound kinda sucks though, 300 foot ceilings and having the band set up 20 feet above everyone doesn't help either.
  • Sliding/climbing in and out of the bowl is fun but you might get splinters in your ass.
  • The food there was plucked from dumpsters, yum!
  • So So Glos were awesome
  • Team Robespierre was good but clearly the set up was not helping them out - being away from the crowd and all.
  • There's some sort of toxic dust i the air at Autumn Bowl, you can see it in the pics.

Wanna See U2 at Fordham? Get A Fake ID.

Remember when you used to have to get a fake ID to get into all the good shows? Well now you can relive those days with a fake Fordham ID. As you've probably heard U2 is supposed to play Fordham... but only for students. But now you can get yourself a fakey straight from the source.

Well, I work at the Fordham student ID office... and I'm transferring after this semester anyway... so I'm taking advantage of the opportunity and offering to sell (A FEW) Fordham IDs. I really need the money and nobody would ever notice. Obviously, I can't print very many, and I can't get caught doing it or else I will get fired (and probably expelled.) But I know how not to get caught.

I would like to charge $50 per Fordham ID. Considering that U2 concert tickets usually sell for more than $150, that is a really good bargain! If I get a TON of interested responses to this post, more than I can do, then maybe I will raise the price. But if I can do 20 of them at $50 apiece, that would be just fine with me.
See, it's easy. It's fool proof!

Link:
Fordham ID Craigslist

*** Hey stupids, I'm not the guy selling the ID. Notice how the part of the post with the info is in quotes? Yeah, that means it's from somewhere else, like maybe the Craigslist post I linked to below it. Stop fucking emailing me asking for an ID.
