Tonight: Apes And Androids & Sigmund Droid

It's official... Apes And Androids are huge. Tonight they are making their headlining debut at Bowery Ballroom! Pretty fucking impressive. After that head over to Fontana's for the official after party with a live performance by Sigmund Droid. If David isn't too tired maybe he'll hop on guitar for a few songs.

Hitler Really Digs Burning Man

This is pretty fucking hilarious. I guess it makes sense old Adolph is into the hippie shit, he was an artist after all.

Free Ra Ra Riot Show On Thursday

You can thank me later for this, or now - whatever. Come to 70 Greene St. on Thursday for a free party with a live preformance by Ra Ra Riot, a DJ set by Finger On The Pulse, and live art from Art Battles. There's going to be free Black Swan wine and some appetizers all night. So come dance and get drunk - actually it works better the other way around.

RSVP is a must:

t.A.T.u. Resorts To Nudity

Remember TATU, that semi-shitty girl duo that caused an uproar a few years back when they made out in a video? Well since the lesbo schtick doesn't work anymore they took the next logical step - they got naked. Not only did they get naked they actually recorded music video in which they get naked. Nudity in a music video is not exactly new (thanks for the 90's Sir Mix-a-lot) but the actual performer nude is sorta new (wait, did Madonna do this?). So enjoy some boobs during your lunch break - you deserve 'em.

Tonight: MyOpenBar Party

Party in Brooklyn tonight. I hear the Apes are playing, actually I thought I saw it on MOB but now it's not there so who knows. Maybe I was hallucinating... damn delicious moldy bread.

It might be to late to RSVP but I have a feeling you'll get in even if you didn't.

Apes And Androids Are Playing Bowery Ballroom

Brooklyn Ski Club's favorite band has moved on to the big times! On May 30th Apes & Androids will headline The Bowery Ballroom. They just posted the flyer on their MySpace page so I thought I would share - it's awesome. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy shit they do this time!

Kill Death Cab For Cutie!

This is as close to the dream as we're going to come. Apparently Death Cab have some kind deal with Xbox or something. Members of Death Cab will be on Xbox Live playing regular schlubs (yeah you, ya fuckin' schlub) in a Call Of Duty 4 tournament. Too bad I don't have Xbox because getting these douches in my sights and firing would feel great. If any of you people out there take part in this let me know. I want a full kill report by 0800... wait, that's 8AM right? Fuck that, nevermind.

Xbox LIVE Gold members can get a chance to play with Death Cab for Cutie by sending a friend request to the below Gamertags and be online half an hour before (7:00 P.M. ET) the Game with Fame session starts at 7:30 P.M. ET on Friday, May 16.

Date: May 16th, 2008
Time: 4:30 - 6:30 PM (Pacific)
Game: Call of Duty 4
Gamertags:

Tonight: Bonde Do Role, Nicole Atkins

  • Bonde Do Role After Party @ Europa, 11PM (FREE): Personally I think the party sounds better then the show. There are a few DJs, including Lauren Flax. It appears there's no free booze which is a bummer but the Polish beer at Europa isn't too pricey. **Update: Forgot to mention the show before hand. Death Set is playing too. It's $12.

  • Spring BBQ Bash @ The Delancey, 7PM (FREE): Several bands are playing including Nicole Atkins And The Sea. Free well drinks from 8:30-9:30. All you can eat BBQ for $5 (My favorite part). Sounds like a good way to start the night.

Filter Played Mercury Lounge Last Night

By the time I found out that Filter was playing Mercury Lounge it was too late - it sold out. I tried to pull some strings to get in but the fact is I'm not very well connected in the hard rock/metal world. I was super bummed about it. Not that I love Filter, they're good, but a chance to see them at Mercury Lounge just sounded awesome.

Thankfully, MetalSucks got in and wrote a great review. Apparently they played a bunch of old shit including "Trip Like I Do", "Jurrasitol", and "Hey Man, Nice Shot". DAMN IT! I wish they just played the new shit no one cares about. Why did they have to go and rub it in my face like this? Anyhow, read the review and get mad, like me. Oh wait, you're too busy pretending you never liked Filter and they suck, right? You used to love them, stop fronting Mr. Williamsburg.

Tonight: Trainwreck Prom, Naked Ping Pong, Some Show At Studio B

I know everybody is heading to the Black Kids / Cut Copy show at Studio B tonight but if you're not going here are a few other options for fun.

  • Trainwreck Prom @ Angels & Kings (10:30PM), FREE: Despite the venues association with douche king (hence the name) Pete Wentz this is a pretty cool venue. Trainwreck is a cool party with lots of free beer (and it's Newcastle!). Tonight this weekly pa rty gets a make over and wears a tux. All types of "extras" tonight, check out the flyer.
  • Naked Ping Pong @ 487 Greenwich, 5th FL (7PM), $20: OK this shit is crazy expensive but I promise you it's worth it. I went to this last time and it was super fun. Booze, pizza, and ping pong are included with the cover. There a re some serious players but it's all done in good drunken fun. There was some dude playing with a cell phone as a paddle and kicking peoples asses! The night ended with some crazy one on one, like that Chinese pong shit you see on ESPN 7 at four in the morning.

Tonight: Shatner, UCB, Street Meat, The Kiss Off

  • William Shatner will be at the 92nd Street Y tonight. It's $30 so you won't see me there but still worth mentioning. 7:30PM
  • UCB is having their Spring Fling tonight. 9:30PM, $5.
  • More comedy: Street Meat @ Cake Shop. Free comedy, you'll get your moneys worth... maybe.
  • The Kiss Off played my party at Crash Mansion. They were good so make sure you catch them at the Mercury Lounge tonight. 9PM, $10

Like Saves The Day? Got $450?

Earlier today somebody in Pennsylvania bought a Saves The Day 7" for $450! Yes, that's right - the emo band Saves The Day. Seriously!?! What the fuck is going on here? Congrats to you little rich girl in Bryn Mawr, PA. You are now the proud owner of "the holy grail of Saves The Day records".

Security Camera Music Video

I meant to post this on Friday but it slipped my alcohol soaked mind. Check out this video by The Get Out Clause. It's band no one has ever heard of who made a very clever video. The band performed in front of public video cameras and then took advantage of the Data Protection Act and acquired the various videos. Then they stitched the footage together and made a pretty damn cool looking video. Take a gander...

Valient Thorr Donates Kidney. Gets A Lousy T-Shirt.

Thorr Himself, front man of Valient Thorr, will be donating a kidney to save his father. To commemorate the experience a totally bitchin' t-shirt was designed. The shirt is a little pricey ($18) but the guy just had his kidney cut out so poney up.

Tonight: The Apes, CPC Gangbangs, Golden Error, It-Lives

Tonight is a night of discovery for me. Let me tell you why - I live a couple of blocks from Don Pedro's (where this show is) but I haven't been there yet. I've also been hearing awesome things about all of the bands playing tonight but haven't seen any live yet. So I get to check out a bunch of bands I hear are awesome at a venue I hear is awesome. Let's drink at my place and go!

Cavalera Conspiracy & Dillinger Presale ($45!!!)

I feel like I just got molested or something. Why? Because I just willing paid $45 for tickets to a show featuring half of the members of my favorite band when I was 14 (Sepultura). My justification is that Cavalera Conspiracy sounds a whole hell of a lot like Chaos AD era Sepultura, and that's a good thing. Also Max and Igor back on stage together is pretty awesome.

That said if I ever got to see Sepultura with Max then there's no way I would have bought this ticket. I was supposed to once but the show got canceled an hour before the doors opened. I think this is as close as I'm going to get at this point.

Anyway, go to BrooklynVegan to get the password for the presale.

2008 Siren Fest Lineup

The lineup for this years Siren Festival was announced and it's pretty, um, well let's just say it's not for me. I mean it's bands the blogosphere and the NYC indie kids love but I don't know if I'd head all the way to Coney Island for it. Anyway, here it is:

STEPHEN MALKMUS AND THE JICKS
BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE
THE HELIO SEQUENCE
BEACH HOUSE
TIMES NEW VIKING
JAGUAR LOVE
THE DODOS
ANNUALS
FILM SCHOOL
PARTS & LABOR
DRAGONS OF ZYNTH
THESE ARE POWERS
and more to be announced!

New REM Video... Do You Care?

REM has a new video for their new single called "Hollow Man". I'm pretty sure I don't like it. It kinda sounds like the theme song for a shitty TV drama about high school kids with emotional issues. But people dig REM and I wanted to make fun of something today so I posted it. Wait... do people still dig REM?

I was cleaning out the inbox and stumbled upon this remix. I generally hate remix's but this isn't half bad so I thought I would share it.

The Virgins Played A Secret Show Last Thursday

Sorry for the late post but I figured better late then never, right? Last Thursday I went to R-Bar for Rumors, which is a new party/show. That's the first time I've been to R-Bar. It's decent I guess, the drinks are expensive and there's stripper poles. Both of which can be good or bad depending on which side of the East River you live on.

The lineup was pretty awesome - Boy Crisis, Teenage Prayers, Photo Atlas, Young Lords, Robbers On High Street, and The Virgins (who were the secret guest). The Photo Atlas was fucking awesome! Seriously, they got even better then they were the last time I saw them. I also dug Young Lords set. Despite knowing former members that's the first time I've seen them. They're pretty much the definition of rock n' roll. These dudes look like they live the life according to Keith and Mick.

The Virgins were surprisingly good despite the awkward as fuck band members. The Virgins, "it's not just a clever name". But they got better with every song. I also got drunker with every song, which might mean something.

The rest of the bands were good but I just didn't have the attention span for all six bands. I kinda drifted around between the band room and the main bar all night. Overall it was fun and the bands were all good. Well done Rumors.

Tonight: Rumors (Bands, Open Bars, Free Stuff)

Tonight I highly recommend hitting R Bar for the latest installation of Rumors. The line-up includes Robbers On High Street, Young Lords, The Photo Atlas, Boy Crisis, Teenage Prayers and a secret guest band that doesn't like sex **hint hint**. There will be two open bars, free shirts, free snacks, live art, and Ultragrrrl is hosting or DJing or something like that. It's $10 which is more then I'm usually down to pay but it's a good lineup and there's lots of free shit so $10 ain't shit tonight.

JellyNYC Announces 2008 Pool Party Lineup

Of all my years in NYC I can honestly say that nothing is more fun then the Pool Parties. If I'm in town I go every single weekend. Drinking, dodge ball, drinking, food, and bands... lots of really fucking good bands. And of course this year continues the tradion of excellence.

Here are the confirmed bands for 2008:

The Breeders, MGMT, The Hold Steady, Liars, Aesop Rock, Black Lips, Deerhunter,
Fuck Buttons, Matt Kim, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Team Robespierre, The Loved
Ones, Panther, King Khan and His Shrines, Ting Tings,...dates and more additions
