No Age Plays Ping Pong Also Plays A Vegan Grocery Store

Here are a couple of cool videos I thought you might dig. The first is No Age vs. Vice in a ping pong match to the death... well, actually a t-shirt and haircut were at stake. The other video is No Age playing a vegan grocery store.

No Age Vegan

Hey, so uhh, No Age - I'm having a party on May 6th. That's the same day as your show at Bowery Ballroom. It's at Crash Mansion which is on Bowery, right around the corner. You should stop by after the show, feel free to invite everyone at Bowery... seriously.

FLVto: Turn YouTube Clips Into MP3s

Turning YouTube clips into MP3s might seem useless to most people but it's actually pretty cool. Think about it - remember that killer performance by your favorite band when they were on Conan? Well now instead of watching it over and over again online convert that fucker to MP3 and drop it in your iPod. Pretty awesome aye? This isn't exactly something new. I've been doing this for a while but now it's way easier to do. Just drop a URL in a box and press a button - easy!

Last Day For Cheap(?) CMJ Badges

Cheap might not be the best word to describe something that costs $340 dollars but when you consider it's normally $495 I guess it applies. That's a 30% discount, or so they say, I'm too lazy to do the math. Frankly, unless you want to go to the panels CMJ badges are pretty useless. In fact it's almost harder to get into the shows with a badge. But I'm just sharing the info - do with it as you please. The sale ends at midnight.

Special Announcement: Brooklyn Ski Club Presents Sigmund Droid

After a couple years of threatening to throw a party I finally did it. Things kinda fell into place perfectly and I didn't have to do much work so I said sure, why not? Sigmund Droid will be headlining the show with a super secret special guest on guitar. I seriously can't tell you who it is because of a conflicting show but I'm sure you can figure it out... you're pretty smart.

Additionally my favorite DJ is going to be on the decks - DJ Jess from Trash and NC-17. You'll also get a live set from The Kiss Off and more DJ stuff from Riot City. Did I mention the free vodka? Well, there is... at least for an hour (10-11PM). There's also going to be some free Red Bull.

Oh, and check out this super bitchin' flyer...

RSVP:

Daniel Higgs (Lungfish) Playing Knitting Factory Tomorrow

Daniel Higgs (lead singer for Lungfish) has just been added to the Singer show tomorrow at the Knitting Factory. If you haven't seen Daniel Higgs live I highly recommend it, especially if you like weirdo folk shit. I have no idea what the other bands playing are all about but who cares.

8PM Doors

9PM Daniel Higgs

10PM Cloudland Canyon

11PM Singer (members of Lichens, 90 Day Men, Us Maple, Town & Country)

American Hardcore (Video)

I finally got around to watching the American Hardcore documentary today. It's pretty good and does a great job of telling the story of hardcore across the country. Anyway, I just wanted to share it with you. The only bummer is you'll need to install the Veoh player.

Tonight: Sigmund Droid Party

This is going to be fucking awesome! Yeah, party time. Seriously though - good bands, unlimited booze for $10. Pretty cool. Plus it all goes to charity so you can feel good about being a drunk.

Tonight: Burning Angel 6-Year Anniversary @ Trash

When even the flyer has naked titties on it you know you're in for a decent night. There's so much going on here that I don't even know where to start. Actually, that's not true... Joanna Angel!

Dillinger Escape Plan & Throwdown To Support Cavalera Conspiracy

If you haven't heard the reunited Cavalera brothers (Max & Igor of Sepultura fame) have started a new band called The Cavalera Conspiracy. While the name kinda sucks the music does not. It's very similar to Chaos A.D. era Sepultura, maybe even Arise/Beneath The Remains at times. Take a listen to the MP3's below.

MP3:
Sanctuary - The Cavalera Conspiracy

Earlier today it was announced that Dillinger Escape Plan, Throwdown, Bury Your Dead, and Incite will open for Cavalera Conspiracy on their tour. There's a good chance that this will be their only tour so go see Max and Igor.

From MySpace:

The official bill for Infliktour 2008 USA has been released, and the lineup is as-follows:

Cavalera Conspiracy
Dillinger Escape Plan
Throwdown
Bury Your Dead
Incite

...official US Tour-Dates will be released at the end of the week.

Remember! This MAY be the only US Tour for this album, dont miss it!

Check their MySpace for dates... it's pretty much just Europe now but I'm sure they'll hit the states too.

Mission Of Burma @ Solar1

Yesterday I checked out the free Mission Of Burma show at the Solar1 space on the East River. This was my first trip to the Solar1 space and I was surprised by how small it was. At most it could hold maybe 400 people, which is small for an outdoor space.

They had some really good food there - Indian bread, vegan & regular pizza, hummus, etc. It was also nice that the police presence was pretty much non-existent, which made it easier to drink.

Despite the fact that it was warm throughout NYC along the river it wasn't quite as nice. I like to think that's why there was barely anyone there. The opening bands certainly didn't help with attendance. They were playing mostly hippie jam bullshit, which was pretty excruciating. We went across the street to Peter Cooper Village and kicked around the soccer ball to kill time during the opening bands.

When Burma took the stage everyone pushed towards the stage. Mind you that everyone only equaled about 150 people. When they burst into the first song I noticed that the amps on stage were much louder then the actual house speakers. Needless to say the mix was pretty bad and could have been much better if they just told the band to turn the amps down a bit.

Despite the sound MOB played a pretty killer set. The cold breeze coming off the river was pretty distracting though. I've seen MOB before and I have to say that performance wise this was an awesome show. MOB was clearly having a good time and that always makes for a better show. But with the cold and the sound considered it was far from perfect. That said I had fun. It's always awesome to hear some old school punk rock, especially when it's free.

Mission Of Burma Free Show Today

There's a free show at the Solar1 space today at 2PM. The legendary Mission Of Burma will be headlining the outdoor show. Rumor has it that Grizzly Bear was the original headliner but had to pull out at the last minute (usually the best time). Personally I'll take MOB over Grizzly Bear any day of the week, especially a nice day like this. I'm not sure how anal security is so I don't know if you can bring in food and drink, might be a good time to bust out those flip-flop flasks!

Mission Metallica - "Experience" The New Shit

Metallica set up a website where fans can input their email and "experience the album... before it's done". I signed up because there's still a tiny glimmer of hope in me that thinks Metallica can still melt faces. I mean I expect to be let down, like I have every single other time, but Rick Rubin knows his metal and with him kicking them in their fat old asses then MAYBE we'll get a song or two that compares to the 80's stuff.

Metallica... there is a false king sitting in the throne you abandoned. This is your last chance to reclaim that throne, it's now or never. Play metal, real metal - start fucking THRASHING!

Eric Avery Performing With Jane's Addiction!

Like most people my age I dig Jane's Addiction. They made some incredible music back in the day. However, I've always been annoyed at these half ass reunions they've done over the years. Look, Flea is a good bassist and all but Eric Avery... man, Eric Avery was just awesome! He wrote some of my favorite bass lines. I mean, sure Flea is technically better but he just DOES NOT understand subtlety like Eric. So here's my point - I'm a huge fan of Eric Avery's style and for the first time I'm actually excited about a Jane's Addiction reunion. It's supposed to be for one show only but hopefully they'll tour a little.

Five Eyes Festival: Sigmund Droid (w/ David From Apes & Androids on Guitar) and Boy Crisis

Last weekend I went to a random loft party in Brooklyn to see Sigmund Droid play. It's been a while since I saw them and it appears I picked the right night because David from Apes & Androids was there playing guitar with Sigmund Droid. It was one of the better shows I've been to in a long time. It reminded me of the old punk rock house parties I used to go to back in the day. Anyway, the point is Sigmund Droid with David on guitar is not to be missed.

On top of all that there are other bands playing, and DJs, and most importantly - beer. The cover is $10 but it goes to charity so you can write it off, if you're into that sort of thing.

Saturday April 26th, 7pm, at 32B South 1st Street. $10 donation.

Check Out: The Time Of The Assassins

The Time Of The Assassins are a band from Australia. They're one of those bands I can go crazy on with the comparisons so I'll spare you the "sounds like (insert band) had rough sex with (insert band) while (insert band) jerked off in the corner" comparison. But I will say this, I def hear a little Blood Brothers in there and that's all I need.

Tonight: This Is Ivy League @ Knitting Factory (FREE Beer)

Tonight Ivy League... umm, excuse me, This Is Ivy League are playing a $10 ($5 if you RSVP... too late, sucka!) show at Knitting Factory. It's early, the opener (New Jerk Times) hit the stage at 7:15 and Ivy League go on at 9. The free beer, courtesy of MyOpenBar, starts flowing at 8PM sharp and goes until it runs out, so let's say 8:20.

BSC On Twitter

Just wanted to let you all know that you can follow me on Twitter now. If you're looking for shit to do then this is a decent way to find out. I'll be sending out updates about what's going on that night. Of course I'll also be sending the occasional "WTF is wrong with people" type shit too so you're going to have to deal with that but whatever.

50 Greatest Sketch Comedies Ever

Whoever took the time to put this together has a shit ton of free time on their hands... but thank you! This is a pretty awesome list - lots of SNL, Python, etc. but my one complaint is the surprising lack of Living Colour skits. Anyway, have fun with this.

Metallica Headling Ozzfest?

According to Blabbermouth Metallica might be headlining Ozzfest. Is this awesome? Well that depends on whether or not Metallica brings the Thrash. If they play ONE of those horrible songs from the '90's then it's not worth it. Hopefully Rick Rubin kicked those old pricks in their asses and got them to sound like... well, Metallica again. The bad part is that it looks like Ozzfest won't be tour, just a big show, like metal Coachella or something.

Beware Ye Jagski

Last night I was at The Annex for the Radio America show. As usual we were drinking heavily, mostly beer. Then I joking invented a drink "you should get a Jagski, it's half Jager and half whiskey". I didn't expect it to actually be ordered but it was and thus the Jagski (pronounced Yeag Ski) was unleashed upon society.

First of all it's fucking delicious, you wouldn't expect it to be but it is. But don't let the taste fool you - it's a beast! For most of the night I only drank beer and I was fine, then I had 2-3 Jagski's and let's just say I had some cleaning to do in the morning. Damn you Jagski! I birthed you and this is how you repay me? My child has snucketh upon me and stabbed me in the temple with a rusty icepick. Why?!?

Breaking News: Metal Growling Fucks Up Your Voice

Scientists have confirmed that singing in the familiar "growl" style can lead to vocal chord damage. Also, "screeching", "grunting", and similar distorted styles will fuck you up just as good.

Link:
Music Thing: Scientists ask: Can you sing death metal without ruining your voice?

In completely unrelated news Rick Ta Life has confirmed that he is, in fact, a mute.

Tonight: Club NME w/ Radio America & Ultragrrrl

The Radio America boys get all UK at Club NME tonight. Ultragrrrl will be on the decks and you will be on the bar... face down. Don't try to go shot for shot with Robbie.

I wonder if my student ID from 5 years ago will work? I still look young, right? I do, damn it! You son of bitch! I hate you!

The Hair Of Black Flag

I just saw this on Boing Boing and it's pretty awesome... Completely pointless but awesome nonetheless.

Who Cares? Links Of The Day 4/9

I was going to title this "News & Witty Comments" but you probably wouldn't think my comments are very witty... because you're soooo fucking smart, aren't you?

Remember how Hawthorne Heights had that big falling out with Victory. Well apparently nobody else wanted to sign them...or Tony is just milking come clause in their old contract. Either way, who cares?
BUZZGRINDER » Next Hawthorne Heights Album On Victory Records?

Prince is playing Coachella. That's a really big deal if you pretend to love Prince but really only like a couple songs but nonetheless refer to him as a genius and a guitar god. Yes, I'm talking about you.

I take lots of pictures and occasionally I'll snag some video when I'm shooting a band or something. The problem is when I go to upload the photos I have to sort out the video. Or at least that's what I use to do. YES!

Being a legendary bad ass is cool, just ask Mister T or Martha Stewart, which is why I'm linking to these pearls of wisdom from Patton. My favorite: "A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week."

Type O & Hatebreed Presale Password

Type O Negative, Hatebreed, and 3 Inches Of Blood are touring together. That's three bands that sound absolutely nothing alike and have no business touring together. However, I happen to like all of them so I might just buy tickets. TON is one of my all-time favorites but the last time I saw them they phoned it in so I'm not sure how I feel about $25 tickets. Hatebreed is a band I used to love... when they were a hardcore band. Now that they're playing more metal stuff I'm not all that interested but they are very good live. 3 Inches of Blood are baby Iron Maiden and will totally surprise you with their awesomeness live.

But more to the point the tickets for this show are on sale now and the password is: JAGER.

Tonight: ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE @ Europa!

Yes, this deserves an all caps title! The mother fucking Anti-Nowhere League is in Brooklyn tonight. I've been waiting for a long fucking time to see these dirty motherfuckers.

Anti-Nowhere League
w/ Blanks 77, Far From Finished, The Blame
@ Europa, Brooklyn
5PM (?? fucking early)

Metallica w/ Animal from (ANL) performing "So What"

New Charles Manson Album (Free Download...Score!)

Move over Jay-Z, step aside Arcade Fire, because Charlie is BACK! Charles Manson just dropped his latest masterpiece online. He recorded it in prison and boy does it sound that way. The shit is crazy, son! No really, it's even crazier then you expect it to be. He has little spoken intros before each song which are hilarious... in that rambling madman kinda way. You know, like your Uncle Pete who fought in nam. Anyway, there are a few decent songs mixed in there but for the most part it's just insanity. Then again if you're a big Yoko fan this might be a little tame for you're taste.

Tonight: RUMORS w/ Action Action, Foreign Islands, Jaguar Club, and Fire & Reason

Four bands worth seeing, two open bars, live art, and free schwag for $10... not too shabby.

Tonight: Spring Thaw Party w/ Taigaa!

Just heard about a party in DUMBO this evening. There's some kind of free beer and some band called Taigaa! is playing. I just checked them out and I'm digging it. I'm not usually into this kind of stuff but this is well done. Anyway, check out Taigaa! even if you don't go to the party tonight.

MP3's And Poems

This is the dumbest post I've ever done but here goes...

The Sword kinda sucks
But this song is cool.
If they keep this shit up
Then one day they'll rule.
Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians - The Sword

Like a stoned Arcade Fire
With acoustic guitars
But Without David Bowie
They won't make it too far
Department Of Foreseeable Outcomes - The Lovely Sparrows

Based on the press shot
I'd think Indigo Girls.
But ol' Bess shaves her pits
So give it a whirl.
Sunday - Bess Rogers

Umm, what the fuck is this shit?
It's just really odd
Like Frank Zappa's head
On an Indie rock bod.
Tommy Wommy - Everthus The Deadbeats

Nothing special here,
But it's a decent song, man.
Am I the only one,
That hears a little Steely Dan?
(Answer: Probably)
I'm In Love Again - The Teenage Prayers

I fucking hate cats!
They shit in my yard.
I fucking hate disco!
And my eardrums are scarred.
Black Cat - Ladytron

So that's all folks - I'm an idiot and I'm OK with that.
