Yoko Ono & Friends - "Yes, I'm A Witch"

Hahaha... Sorry but this is pretty damn funny. Apparently indie's elite have joined together for a Yoko Ono tribute album. They were allowed to keep elements of the original songs(?) and build new music around it.

Hence the new Astralwerks release, Yes, I’m A Witch, a totally different kind of collaboration with some of
today’s most exciting musicians.

Each artist was given her catalog to listen to, and upon selecting a cut, was provided with the vocals and
whatever other instrumental elements attracted them from th
at cut. Almost all the artists chose just the
vocals. They then produced entirely new musical tracks that make it clear just how ahead of her time her
compositions and performances were, and how they remain so.

"Ahead of her time" - Now that is rich. I think if you substituted "crazy" in for that it would make more sense. Yoko Ono is a god damn no talent hack who should have never been allowed near a studio. Sorry but screeching jibberish yelled into a microphone is NOT music, or at least not good music. If Yoko Ono is "ahead of her time" then the future is a scary place. Here is who took part in this wretchedness.

you're wrong again. her "plastic ono band" is a great record. and she isn't always screeching (though that's good, too). ahead of her time, perhaps; ahead of you for sure.

  2. Her "Plastic Ono Band" is shite. John's "Plastic Ono Band" might have been great if Yoko wasn't screaming like a banshee in the background. I will give Yoko credit though, no one has had a better career of ruining other people's good music.

in response to matt saturday: except yoko doesn't appear at all on john's "plastic ono band." no screeching, nothing, she's not on those tracks. you don't know what you're talking about - which is what the internet is for i guess.

  5. Well hey, maybe you got me there. Not being a fan of Plastic Ono Band means that I do not know what I'm talking about - I'm fine with that. I never claimed to know shit about these albums. All I know is Yoko sounds like a chimp being raped in the ass. Fucking John Lennon does not make you a musician.

Listening to it now... you know what? it's pretty great. First of all it's not a 'tribute' album, but a collaboration compilation. And it's really well done - the Peaches track is pretty loveable - same for the Shitake Monkey song.

All these years later after all she's accomplished and endured - why you want to hate on the woman?

  9. That's exactly the point - she hasn't accomplished anything. Without Lennon no one would have ever heard of this crazy lady.

Urm sorry to burst your bubble but Yoko was known around the world when lennon was still probably learning his 9 times table.
So fucking John Lennon doesn't make you a musician?
    She's a performance artist...

As she has stated many a time

Go read some books on performance theory...

  11. That's all well and good but screeching into a mic doesn't make you an artist. I don't care how long you do it for, it's still dumb.
