Elvis Hitler

When I was about 13 I was visiting my cousin in Belmar, NJ. I loved going there because there were a couple cool independent record stores in Belmar, which didn't exist in my town. As soon as I would unpack my shit I would ride my bike down to the record shop and dig through the used section.

One time I was with my pops and my brother, when one of us noticed a CD called Hellbilly by Elvis Hitler. Being 13 I thought the name was fucking hilarious - so did everyone else for that matter. My dad bought it as a joke - just because it was cheap. We played it when we got back to the house and my young ears thought it sounded just as ridiculous as the name suggested.

The CD kinda just sat in my closet collecting dust for a few years. At some point I really started getting into punk. One day I found this CD and popped it in and I was totally amazed. It's really badass psychobilly punk rock with a touch of thrash. I was right about one thing - it is ridiculous, but that's whats to love about it. It's the musical equivalent of a campy B-movie.

When I play this for people two-thirds of them look at me like "what the fuck is this crap?", the other third respond completely the opposite. I don't think there's an in between with a band like Elvis Hitler.

As I was writing this I Googled Elvis Hitler and apparently they reunited in 2003. There's a review of the show here.
